This is a new, free, three-week course developed by the University College London Development Education Research Centre. It has a time commitment of around three hours per week. The first run will begin on 14 November 2022. It is free and all participants need is a stable internet connection.

Course details and enrolment can be found here: https://www.futurelearn.com/courses/educating-for-sustainable-development-in-schools-and-universities.

The course aims to provide educators with an introduction to key ideas and practices related to education, learning and sustainable development, including issues such as climate change. Through online discussions and activities, participants will engage with diverse perspectives and practices from around the world and also explore current international policy. The course is intended for both educators in higher education as well as teachers in schools, so that participants can talk to one another about their practice and share ideas with peers about how education for sustainable development might link across various levels of education. Participants also have an opportunity to reflect on how their learning from the course can be applied to their practice.

The course is primarily aimed at educators in schools and universities, but emphasises throughout that it is important that education for sustainable development goes beyond the classroom and makes links with broader communities and stakeholders. So colleagues in nonformal education might find it of interest in terms of how formal and nonformal sectors could work together….

With regards to course fees, the free option gives access only for a limited time (about 8 weeks, including the initial 3 week facilitated run). The £34 upgrade (or subscription) gives unlimited time access to the course and also a certificate of completion at the end.
