The KCCG community were saddened by news that on the 10th January, valued member David Porter passed away.

Dave has been a constant pillar of support in the climate group since 2023, not only weighing in on key matters but also contributing his beautiful wooden creations to help advertise KCCG’s work. A skilled craftsman, his fairy houses may be seen decorating residential gardens and community spaces across Kempston, and his wooden stakes are in a number of planters filled and maintained by KCCG. Most recently, his handiwork is on display at the planter outside Kempston Library.

Alongside his creative endeavours, David maintained the Green Man Community Garden with fellow volunteers Pat (his wife) and Keith. The garden is a well-kept haven tucked away in Addison Howard Park for the use of the Kempston community, and has benefitted local schools, families and individuals who come to tend to the plants or take a moment of respite amongst the flowers. KCCG first collaborated with the Green Man Community Garden in June 2023 for Big Green Week.

David’s influence will continue to be felt in the labour he contributed to make the community garden a welcoming space, and in the bespoke models he crafted to encourage people to engage with their environment. In particular, the impressive wooden tree he crafted to represent the Green Man Garden at the Transfiguration Church’s annual Christmas tree festival will always call to mind his dedication to the causes he cared about.

Rest In Peace, David Porter
