Did you know that Kempston has its very own community garden?

The Green Man Community Garden is a wonderful green space, tucked away in a corner of Addison Howard Park, adjacent to The Grange.
Prior to the pandemic, a group of volunteers, working closely with Bedford Borough Council, completely transformed the garden into a tranquil and natural environment for all to enjoy. Sadly the garden had fallen into disuse but, now, a new group of volunteers (including some old faces) have come together to help restore the garden to its former glory with a little help from Cllr Sue Oliver’s ward fund to kick-start the project. Their hard work was recently featured in a front page feature article in the April 2023 issue of Kempston Calling.
Volunteering sessions have now started up again and the group meets weekly on Fridays between 12 noon and 2pm. New volunteers are always welcome (tools and gloves are provided).
The garden features a small pond, bug hotel, planters for edibles and flowering plants, fruit trees, fairy houses, painted murals, hedgehog boxes, bird feeders, nesting boxes, bench seating and more!
