Thanks to the Transfiguration Church for inviting Kempston Climate Change Group to be part of their summer fete. The event, which took place on Saturday 15th July, was very well attended and a great success. Environmental issues were at the top of the agenda at the fete, with stalls also representing the Church’s Youth Group (who are hard at work on a number of green initiatives), the Green Man Community Garden and local businesses selling eco-friendly toiletries and home products.

Members of KCCG spoke to lots of visitors about local recycling and refill schemes, cycling, public transport and solar power initiatives. Some reported having lived in Kempston for many years but being unaware of these opportunities. Others offered great suggestions for further group activities and provided additional information on local recycling schemes.

It was great to once again collaborate with our friends at the Green Man Community Garden, who providing two varieties of Sedum plants for us to display and sell on our stall. These had specially-designed plant pot wraps promoting both the KCCG and the Green Man Garden. Sedum is a popular choice for ‘green roofs’ due to its efficient carbon sequestration capabilities and relative tolerance of drought conditions.

The stall was visited over the course of the afternoon by Bedford and Kempston MP Mohammad Yasin and Borough Councillor Caroline White.
